The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev

In case you've been living under a rock for the last 3 years, you're probably familiar with a little TV show called The Vampire Diaries. The show centers on human Elena Gilbert and her relationships with vampire brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore. The part of Elena is played very skillfully by actress Nina Dobrev.

Born on January 9, 1989 in Sofia, Bulgaria as Nina Constantinova Dobreva, this willowy and statuesque actress stands 5' 6"with long dark hair and her trademark big brown eyes that mesmerize anyone that falls under their gaze. She moved to Canada when she was just 2 years old and lived in Toronto, Ontario until relocating to the Atlanta, Georgia area for filming of The Vampire Diaries. She was quite young when she first started showing a flair and enthusiasm for such things as Music, Gymnastics, Dance, Theatre, Acting and Visual Arts. First, Nina was a model, which led to commercials, and then auditions for films. It wasn't long before she had roles in such feature films as "Fugitive Pieces," "Away from Her," "The Roommate," "Chloe," the upcoming "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," and numerous Lifetime Movies. She also co-starred in the very popular TV series "Degrassi: The Next Generation." She played the part of Mia Jones, a teenage mother.

Traveling has always been a passion of Nina's and she visited Europe often for pleasure as well as for international competing as a representative for Canada in the Aesthetic gymnastics. She's pretty athletic, enjoying volleyball, swimming, soccer, horseback riding, snowboarding, and rock climbing. However, acting is Nina's passion and she views this as a long term adventure that's only begun. She believes that the journey and characters created along the path go a long way in helping to understand herself.

Her experiences on The Vampire Diaries has enabled her to really spread her acting wings as she's portrayed both Elena Gilbert and the vampire Katherine Pierce. These characters are entirely different from one another and Nina captures those differences perfectly. Sometimes, you can even see physical differences when the various characteristics come out in each one of them. Now, she'll get a chance to play a third character. That one will be Elena the vampire as she was turned at the end of the Season 3 Finale. It's going to be lots of fun to see what Nina does with this new aspect of Elena.

On top of Nina's beauty, intelligence, talents and abilities, she's got something else that a large part of the world's female population, and, possibly, some males, too, would love to have at their disposal. That extra added spicy ingredient is none other than her co-star, Ian Somerhalder. They've been in a romantic relationship for a couple of years, now, even though they kept it quiet until sometime in 2011. It's a good thing that she's a star in her own right because most women would probably just gaze into those phenomenal neon blue eyes of his within that remarkably beautiful face and be rendered speechless. However, Nina can apparently resist that urge, which is probably one of the many things that keep them together.

Seriously, this girl has everything! Think about it: a starring role in one of the top television shows currently running, becoming more and more in demand for feature film roles, and has one of the most gorgeous men in the acting business as her own. What more could she want? Even though she chose Stefan on The Vampire Diaries, she's got the hot brother in real life. That's not meant to sound as if Paul Wesley isn't hot because he is in his own way. It's just that Ian has those eyes! At any rate, Nina does have quite a lot ahead for her both personally and professionally.

There are some fun facts that you might like knowing about Nina. They include:

She came in as number 44 in the 2011 Australia list of the 100 Sexiest Women in the World. That's quite an honor, but isn't she just a bit hotter than number 44?
Her best friends are actress Sara Paxton and actor Matt Lanter of 90210 fame. An interesting little side note about Matt is that he played the character of Edward Sullen in the satire Vampires Suck. These vampires just really stick together.
She likes to play Rock Band as well as indulge in windsurfing, scuba diving, and wake boarding.
Nina's not just another pretty face. She's quite intelligent and speaks fluent French, English, and Bulgarian. When she played Bella in the World War II movie, Fugitive Pieces, she was required to learn Yiddish phonetically.
She went to Kenya with her Degrassi cast mates, where they built a school through the non-profit organization Free the Children. At the end of the movie, American Mall, Nina wore a top that promoted this cause.
Nina attended a general audition for the television show Degrassi: The Next Generation and read for the part of Manny. However, she later got a call back to read for Mia's part. That's the role she won.
She loves to make jewelry and plans to start her own jewelry line.
Nina is aware of a resemblance she has to actress Victoria Justice, who she's compared to frequently.
Some of her favorite movies are The Notebook, Juno, Schindler's List, Transformers, and Knocked Up.
Nina's favorite TV shows include Grey's Anatomy, Gossip Girl, House, So You Think You Can Dance, Nip/Tuck, and Heroes. (Hey, Nina, shouldn't The Vampire Diaries be on that list? Just saying.)
Interestingly, Nina loves the Twilight series and was hoping to play the part of Bella Swan prior to getting the part of Elena in The Vampire Diaries.
She's a fan of the hit series on HBO, True Blood.
Actress Rachel McAdams is Nina's idol.
Nina co-hosted We Day with Joe Jonas in September of 2011. This event is held by the Free the Children organization.
She admires actress Meryl Streep and child rights advocate Craig Kielburger.
She loves the musical Chicago. In fact, she took inspiration for her performance in American Mall from Cell Block Tango.
For a little fun trivia, the part Nina played in Degrassi: The Next Generation was of a teenage mother. Her part on The Vampire Diaries is as the daughter of a teenage mother.
Nina is just 14 years younger than actress Mia Kirshner, who plays her biological mother and just 8 years younger than actor David Anders who plays the part of her biological father on The Vampire Diaries.

It would seem safe to say that The Vampire Diaries will probably be around for a while longer, so Nina won't just be written off as another young actress. However, no matter what happens with the television show, Nina is destined for a bright future in the acting industry. With so much going for her, how could she possibly miss?
